Bright pink is certainly an unexpected choice for upholstery. But when contrasted with rich neutral tones like the stone-gray walls that set the backdrop for seating covered in Cowtan & Tout's Kazan fabric, the result is less precious and more punchy.

One57 (157 West 57th Street), a luxury 90-story skyscraper, is at the epicenter of Manhattan where The Plaza District meets Central Park. It is the ultimate landscape of society, culture and commerce. Much of New York’s iconography and mythology was born in this neighbourhood.
It is one of NYC’s tallest and the most expensive penthouse, with an average price near $7000 per square foot. Rising to over 1000 feet, One57 elevates New York living with the longest South-to-North views of Central Park ever offered in private residences.
Designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Christian de Portzamparc, One57 provides each residence with extraordinary views and abundant natural light. The walls of glass and the exterior design creates Gustav Klimt’s painting effect. It is an artistic sculpture, billowing upward in a cloud-like formation, while the elegant striated custom curtain wall appears to flow toward the earth like a cascading waterfall.

While Thanksgiving is always a feast, it can get a little boring to have the same dishes year after year. On this Turkey Day, spice things up with some non-conventional Thanksgiving recipes that are sure to become a new tradition. Next, I will introduce a few healthy and delicious side dishes to our new Thanksgiving menu:
These luscious cheese grits can replace standard mashed potatoes as an alluring side dish.
5 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups stone-ground grits
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
Freshly ground pepper
In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
Add a pinch of salt and gradually whisk in the grits.
Cover and cook over low heat, whisking often, until the grits are thick and just tender, about 25 minutes.
Stir in the butter and cheese, season with salt and pepper and serve.
2. Spaghetti Squash 面条节瓜
Have a showstopping side ready in just 30 minutes with this festive spaghetti squash dish. With green lentils, tomatoes, and spinach in the mix, it’s full of so many goodies that your fellow diners may not even realize it’s actually free of gluten, grains, and dairy.
1 can of green lentils (19 oz can), rinsed and drained (or previously cooked)
bunch of baby spinach or chopped spinach
1 teaspoon celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
sea salt and pepper to taste
fresh basil or thyme for plating
grape seed oil for cooking
Preheat oven to 350F.
Line a baking pan with parchment paper and drizzle with olive oil.
Halve the Spaghetti Squash lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and strings from the center and place on a baking sheet cut side down and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool completely by basically setting aside and preparing the other ingredients.
In a large skillet, drizzle in grape seed oil and sautee the onion, add in the cherry tomatoes and continue cooking uncovered for about 2 minutes until the tomatoes brown slightly.
Stir in the lentils, spinach and seasoning: celery seeds, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.
Reduce heat to low and cover the pan to allow the spinach to wilt and heat the lentils.
Turn off heat and set aside.
Back to the squash, fluff the ‘meat’ of the squash with a fork and scoop into the skillet.
Stir to combine all the ingredients well. Adjust seasoning if needed.
Scoop into the shells of the squash evenly.
Top with chopped basil and serve hot.
3. Cornbread Sausage Stuffing Muffins 香肠馅玉米面包玛芬
These moist cornbread muffins are filled with stuffing ingredients like sausage, onions, celery and scallions, for a very flavorful muffin.
For the cornbread muffins:
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup corn flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
1/3 cup vegetable oil
for the filling:
1/2 -3/4 lb pork andouille sausage (finely chopped, browned, and cooked. I sliced my sausages into 1/2 inch thick slices and then divided each slice into quarters)
1/4 cup finely diced celery (lightly sauteed so that they remain crunchy)
1/4 cup finely diced onions (lightly sauteed)
3 tbsp chopped green scallions
Preheat oven to 375F. Line muffin tin with cupcake liners. In a large bowl, add all the cornbread ingredients and mix with a whisk until everything is blended. Scoop batter into cupcake liners, filling between 1/2 to 2/3 full. You should be able to make 12 muffins.
In a separate bowl, add all the filling ingredients and mix together. Scoop a heaping 1 tbsp of stuffing into the middle of each muffin. Try to make sure each one has an even amount of all the stuffing ingredients.
Bake for about 20 minutes until muffins are done. Serve warm. Garnish with additional scallions if desired.
"I am seeking to create an effect of 'false photographs' — to re-embellish already 'embellished' histories and lives." – Zhang Xiaogang
“我正在寻求创造”假照片“的效果 - 重新修饰已经”修饰“的历史和生活。” – 张晓刚
TCT today's art highlight: "Zhang Xiaogang"
Zhang Xiaogang (b.1958) is a contemporary Chinese symbolist and surrealist painter, based in Beijing, China. He studied painting at Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in Chongqing. His works focus on the aftereffects of China’s Cultural Revolution, and the meaning of family, history and individualism.
Zhang is best known for his Bloodlines series, inspired by his discovery of old family photographs, and reached international stature with the debut of his “Bloodlines-Big Family” series at the 1995 Venice Biennale.
Paintings in his Bloodline series are predominantly monochromatic, stylized portraits of Chinese people, usually with large, dark-pupiled eyes, posed in a stiff manner deliberately reminiscent of family portraits from the 1950s and 1960s.
In 2003, “A big family” from Zhang Xiaogang’s Bloodlines series, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong for US$76,000. This same lot has been sold twice since its auction debut, selling for US$1.4 million at Christie’s London in 2006, and again for US$7.3 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2011.
In a span of only eight years, “A big family” series earned a return just shy of 10,000 percent, outperforming overall returns at auction for the artist as a whole, as well as the overall Contemporary market during the same time period. This sale marked the beginning of Zhang’s prominence at auction, which has made him the most expensive living painter among Chinese artists.
The Bloodline: Big Family No.3 from 1995 is arguably the most politically charged piece in the series, showcasing the iconic three-member family portrait; it is the only piece from the series to depict the Little Red Guard with the Chairman Mao badge and armband, making it of greater rarity and art historical value in comparison with other works; it was sold for 94.2 million HKD (12.1 million USD) at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Modern And Contemporary Asian Art Evening Sale on April 5, 2008.
"On the surface the faces in these portraits appear as calm as still water, but underneath there is great emotional turbulence. Within this state of conflict the propagation of obscure and ambiguous destinies is carried on from generation to generation." – Zhang Xiaogang
“表面上，这些肖像中的脸，似静止的水面一样平静，但内心里有很大的情绪动荡，在这种冲突状态下，朦胧和模糊的命运，是一代又一代的传承。” - 张晓刚
According Arnet Analytics, the earliest Bloodlines works created (1990s) have outperformed works created in the 2000s; the Bloodlines works depicting big families outperforming works depicting pairs and single portraits.
Zhang Xiaogang and other artists from our previous posts (Fang Lijun, Wang Guangyi and Yue Minjun) are the 4 top-selling contemporary artists in China, later called the F4 (First or Fab 4) by industry insiders due to their high-profile deals at auctions.
As an art lover and art investor, I have collected his earlier artwork, Secret Chamber, 1989.

Back to School season is coming up, are you ready to challenge your kids to kick off the summer relaxation into excitement for school? We can do this by inspiring them with food.
The first step to create great food is great kitchen. A kitchen should be beautiful and functional so that the chefs of the household are ready to roll up our sleeves and be creative without causing a mess.
Basically, these are the countertops, faucets, and floors you should seriously consider for your kitchen renovation. Kitchen might have the most beautiful cabinets, technologically advanced appliances and high-end finishes, but if the layout doesn't meet the needs of a homeowner's lifestyle, the rest doesn't matter. Here's how to plan an effective layout to meet your needs and fit your space.
Make It Work
When planning a kitchen remodel, it's important to consider how the space will be used.
What’s your cooking style?
What type of appliances do you want?
Will there be people in your kitchen?
Do you want people to sit around the bar/island?
Will kids be in the kitchen with you?
How a kitchen should function is an extremely personal matter, and a floor plan needs to be customized to reflect that.
The Scope of the Kitchen Remodel
Rearranging the floor plan to take advantage of the room's natural assets
Removing doors and walls that closed off the space
Installing a wood paneled ceiling
Building a larger kitchen island for storing appliances
Installing ample storage for quick clean up
Adding a desk area and mudroom
The mudroom connects visually with the kitchen by way of built-in cabinetry.
Opening Up the Space & Removing walls and doors are key to renovation plan
If the original kitchen and dining areas suffered from a chopped-up floor plan, which, although large, still managed to be inefficient. Removing walls and doors was key to their plan.
A wall had previously been blocked from the kitchen that makes kitchen is dark, and all the best windows were in another seldom-used room. Opening walls at both ends of the kitchen brightened the entire space. It also allowed convenient access to utility areas that had previously been closed off.
Smart Storage Solutions，
both for Naughty children put things down & to clean up quickly for entertaining
Another rule is a "10-minute tidy-up” rule, so the busy mom can get things company-ready in a flash. Mom always wants everything to have a place to be able to clean it up quickly, so plentiful storage was a priority for their renovation, but it needed to be right at hand. A new square island, which is table-height, provides a spot for homework, projects and dining, with storage built in to the cabinet base. Bookshelves hold cookbooks, textbooks and homework. Drawers hold table linens. An extra trash built into the table speeds the daily cleanup and eliminates multiple trips back and forth to the kitchen trash.
With a new space outfitted to entertain family and friends, guests can drop by anytime to see the bright and clean kitchen. And hostess will also enjoy using the quick storage solutions clean up quickly for entertaining.
